wyvern V sarisbury sparks 07/03/10

both teams began the game well with some good passing and moving ,wyverns forwards were a constant threat but we managed to deal with them fairly well ,denying them any early opportunities, sarisbury forced a number of corners which were well defended by wyvern,it was a tough battle in midfield as both teams cancelled each other out,the first real chance of the game came to wyvern who scored through their ever reliable centre forward,we managed to reply quite quickly with a headed goal from aiden sherlock, moments later we increased our lead when george robinson fired home from 25 yards, half time 1 – 2.second half began as the first ended with both sides playing good football with little end product, chances came our way which were not taken before weasel beat the keeper to a looping ball to head in and make it 1-3,wyvern were always dangerous on the counter attack, but solid defending prevented any wyvern goals, nick yeomans then beat the offside trap to slot under the keeper to make it 1-4 and right on full time nick beat the keeper with a left footed lob from 30 yards to complete the scoring.many thanks to the ref and to paul bannister for running the line, also many thanks go to all the supporters for turning up to watch, well done to all the boys for a good performance against a strong side.

sarisbury sparks V pace panthers 21/02/10

todays game was a cup match against probably the best team in southampton,we told the boys not to let them have any time on the ball and to pressurise high up the pitch but instead we seemed quite happy to watch them play the ball around with ease,it must have been a while before we actually got hold of the ball and tried to play, pace were attacking well down both flanks and their first goal came from a cross which was bundled home at the far post,we continued to stand off them and their next goal was the result of us not dealing with another cross which came in and the ball was knocked in off the post and bar,it was soon 3 when they were queueing up in the middle to tap home, half time couldnt come quick enough for the lads  although we did have one half chance which was cleared off the line . half time 0-3.some strong words were needed and this seemed to do the trick as we came out a different team and got into them from the off,we were winning every tackle and nick yeomans pulled one back with a fine shot from the edge of the area,a couple of half chances came our way before george robinson scored another with a 25 yard free kick,we were so much on top it was unreal and we piled forward looking for the equaliser, nick had a header which clipped the top of the bar and harry osman had a header cleared off the line, the pace keeper then made a fantastic save to push a jack bannister header around the post,as we bombed forward we were nearly caught on the break as george taylor pushed a fine shot onto the post,we could not find the equaliser that our second half performance deserved and the final result was 2-3,i must say well done to pace who’s first half display was excellent and good luck to them in the next round.a massive amount of work was done in the middle of the park by chas and jb so well done to you,and the second half performance was superb from all of the boys, myself mike rich and phil are all extremely proud of you,

many thanks to the ref who was excellent and to phil for running the line and a big thankyou to all the parents for coming to support the boys

sarisbury sparks V bashley youth 14 / 02/ 10

we began the game quite well and we were soon awarded a penalty after weasel was brought down in the area, george robinson smashed the penalty into the top right corner,we managed to do further in front when nick yeomans fired home from the edge of the area.the game did not have much flow to it as both teams battled for possession but from a corner we went further in front when jack bannister cooly lobbed the keeper with a left foot shot, bashley began to play some nice stuff and they pulled one back when their number 3 darted between two defenders to slot home and then he come up with a strange celebration which made me laugh, sarisbury went straight up the other end and got another one when weasel beat the keeper from close range.half time 4 – 1.we told the lads at half time to keep it tight and pick up your markers so they completely ignored us and let bashley back into the game with some poor defending, george taylor preserved our lead with some outstanding goalkeeping again but was finally beaten when bashley had a queue of players to tap in a cross,we finally got hold of the ball and played it around and this lead  nick yeomans to beat the keeper with a fine shot from the edge of the area, this seemed to settle us a bit but bashley still poured forward in search of a goal and they probably should have had a couple more as we just sat back and let them play, but we managed to hold on and win the game 5 – 2,so well done to all the boys but hopefully we can learn from this and try to see out the games in a stronger fashion.

many thanks to the ref who was excellent, and to the linesman(me) and to all the supporters who turned up to watch.

sportstars V sarisbury sparks 07/02/10

hooray   after three months of waiting we had a game, and it was a toughie against a very good sportstars side,we began the match well with some tough tackling in  midfield and nice interplay,we soon had the ball in the net after a good cross by aiden sherlock was only half cleared and the ball fell to nick yeomans to fire home from close range,we began to on top with sportstars only occasionally troubling our back line, nick then doubled his tally when he lobbed the keeper from 25 yards, sportstars began to get a foothold in the game but our defence stood firm against their attacks, half chances came for both sides but the half ended 0-2,the second half was a game of many chances for both sides,we played with good width and got in behind their defence on many occasions but we failed to take the numerous chances we had,and sportstars were stopped from scoring by some excellent defending and probably the best goalkeeping display that i have seen in a long time,as we continued to miss chances this put more pressure on our defence and with a couple of minutes left sportstars pulled a goal back with a ferocious shot from the edge of the area so that made it a nervy finish but we hung on for the win.many thanks go to the ref who was excellent and to ian yeomans for running the line, also many thanks to all the supporters for turning up to watch a very good match between these sides,

i do just have to mention that the performance of george taylor in the sarisbury goal was absolutely brilliant, both sets of supporters commented on how good he was so well done george, keep it up

sarisbury V allstars

as todays game was called off we managed to draft in some top quality opposition to give the lads a game, this was definitely their toughest match of the season, the allstars kicked off and straight away they played with skill and flair as they tore sarisbury apart, chances were flooding in for the allstars as sarisbury hardly touched the ball, sarisbury luckily took the lead through cheating but it was shortlived as allstars replied with a quality finish, all of sarisbury’s goals came against the run of play, and all of allstars goals were superb, allstars eventually decided to let sarisbury win seeing as it is nearly xmas.many thanks go to the referee(denise) and to the two referees assistants (heather and claire),we can only hope that the boys learnt something from todays game and that it makes them better players
